Woolly Wol stocks 10 types of yarn from Sandnes Garn and Istex in many colours.
There are courses on Monday evenings at the Caversham Baptist Church and on Wednesday evenings at Leander Club in Henley-on-Thames. All courses are from 7:30 – 9:30 pm. There is ample parking right next to both locations. The Caversham Baptist Church is fully accessible. There are three steps to climb to the workshop room at Leander Club. Course type will alternate between both locations.
The pattern has been preselected because they are beginner-friendly patterns, which have been tested thoroughly and the colour of the sweater is going to make a bigger difference visually than a change from one traditional Icelandic pattern to another. Each of the patterns there are courses for contain a range of skills that you will learn, so that you develop all the skills you need for your next knit. The designers of the patterns are very excited that their patterns will be used for these courses and all the patterns we use in our courses are authorised copies that support them!
The colour choices for your sweater are almost more important than the choice of pattern. Changing from a dark base colour to a light base colour or changing a contrast from one place in the pattern to another draws the eye to a completely different part of the sweater. This can make two the same sweaters look completely different. Look at this photo, these are two the same sweaters and the colour choices make them look completely different!
Please do get in touch to discuss your yarn options with me. Each pattern requires a specific thickness of yarn and I will be able to advise you specifically.
Icelandic sweaters like the ones we run courses for are not usually worn right next to the skin, but are worn by Icelandic people as an outer layer. They are lovely and warm and become softer and softer as they mould themselves to your body when you start wearing them. Since I have knitted Icelandic sweaters, I have not worn a coat outside and our heating bill has been significantly lower with Icelandic sweaters as well! They are handwash and flat dry only, but only need to be washed perhaps once or twice a winter. Nordic people lay out all of their knitwear in the snow to wash when it first snows every winter.
If you have any food allergies, please do get in touch and I’ll make sure there are appropriate biscuits for you.
When you book a place on a Woolly Wol knitting course, you confirm that you have read and agree to the terms and conditions. All courses must be booked through the website and payment is required in full at the time of booking. Please note that all bookings are non-refundable, but are transferable to a different course IF there is a waitlist for the course you are booked on. IF there is a waitlist, you will receive workshop credit valid for 12 months from the date of issue. If for any reason the workshop is cancelled by me (due to unforeseen circumstances) I will offer you a full refund or a place on the workshop the next time it is scheduled. If you decide to move onto a future class my offer of a refund is withdrawn and these cancellation policies apply to the new booking (i.e. if you are subsequently unable to attend your new class date a refund does not apply). There are no refunds for single evenings not attended as part of a course that spans several evenings.

Be the first to hear about new workshops, knitting inspiration and upcoming events.
